Let not the mind wander into violence
A peaceful heart flourishes for a peaceful soul
Anger, deviance, argumentation, jealousy
Such selfish emotions blacken one’s dharma

If one desires bread, do not take bread from others
Wait for the bread to be offered
Man is never the owner of his desires
Nor is he owned by them

If one is true, chaste, and wholly uncriminal
Then one has reached the achievements
Of enthusiastic truth

If one labors for a profit
Then one never gains anything
Only through honest labor of body and bread
Can one truly understand satyagraha

Have no fear in wicked men
They steal and put down the righteous
If only for their own selfish means
They know no hard labor or struggles

When a rock is thrown at one
Place the rock aside
And smile at he who threw the stone
For he knows no other way than darkness
You must bring him to the light

Through self-servitude, fearlessness
And equality amongst one’s brothers
The poorest nations can overcome the mightiest of tyrants

Accept defeat today to try again tomorrow
For as long as there are battles for the good
There shall always be an opposing force
Ready to charge in the name of violence

Only through the practice of gentle protest
Can one achieve a higher freedom
Protest without protestation
Fight without a battle
Win without any loss
Live in peace
And one shall find peace

In the early 20th century, Mohandas K. Gandhi introduced a new movement to the Indian political struggle: satygraha ("enthusiasm for truth", roughly translated). It was a movement more commonly known to westerners as "non-violence", though it was much more that. The movement preached the ways of non-violence (ahisma), no untouchables (everyone is equal, there are no castes), self-sufficiency through boycotting all English products (swadeshi), controlling ones hungers, emotions, and carnal desires, as well as passive resistance to opposing authorities. The movement was wildly successful, earning India her freedom as an independent country in the 1940's.

This poem reflects on those values imposed by Satyagraha, and many of these aspects I do follow myself. :)

Also, this is my 100th meaningful poem! Whoo! I'm don e with my collection! :boogie:

Please tell me what you think, as usual. :D

It's like a roadmap to living as a person, or to enlightenment.

Gandhiji was great.

You, as always, display an unmatched harness and control of the English language. Must you be so perfect!? It makes it hard for me to keep up. (Kidding...)

LOL, you're quite perfect yourself. Everyone is perfect, in their own way.
